Soothing, calm and thoughtful design by local designer Tanya Soon recognizes and appreciates the natural beauty of Harrison Mills, BC. The project scope decreed a complete renovation of a 60+ year old family-owned Inn in a region fueled by tourism to provide the ownership group with an opportunity fill a void in the market left by a shortage of quality rental accommodation and grow their business.

Featuring custom hand-made headboards from reclaimed birch, floating bathroom vanities, and floor to ceiling tiled tub/showers highlight some of the comfortably luxurious design finishes. There was As a family-owned business it was key to keep all of the clients involved throughout the design process and this helped to inspire some of the feature details such as handcrafted bathroom hardware and shelving as well as the custom desk/kitchenette furniture in each room.

The scope involved a transformation from 15 rooms + 3 communal bathrooms to 12 independent guest suites. As such, a total mechanical overhaul was required to improve overall operational efficiency including an upgrade from electric baseboard heat to a ductless multi-split heat pump system, as well as a complete overhaul of the electrical systems and plumbing infrastructure to improve the functionality of the entire Inn. With durable and code compliant construction throughout in conjunction with modernized building materials  including a transition from 1/8” wood panelling to fireguard drywall, bundled newspaper insulated exterior walls (news clippings from the 1950’s!) to Roxul mineral wool sound suppressing insulation, plywood trims and casing to locally sourced tongue and groove feature walls and custom pre-finished pine material throughout – this classical building became functional once again.

The finishing touches featured Pictures and artwork from days gone past in each room harkening back to the decades of ownership of the Maclean family and extensive history of the Inn; cultivated locally from the Kilby Museum.

The reward at the end has resulted in many five-star reviews on Travelocity and ongoing positive feedback on the rooms!

In 2016 our family decided to renovate the guest rooms in our 62-year-old inn. After reviewing several quotes, we made the decision to award the contract to Lacey Construction because of their great reputation for quality work. We could not be happier. Through every phase of the renovation Erik and his team were knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. The initial quote was detailed and all costs were available to review online and discussed with the project manager on a regular basis.

Lacey’s expertise in design and sourcing the best materials was invaluable in turning our vision into reality.
