Lacey Developments Ltd. has been chosen as a Finalist in the Canadian Home Builders’ Association 2014 National SAM Awards for Kitchen Renovation for our project Gathering House designed by Allison Holden-Pope of One SEED Design + Architecture.
This family home was originally built on a budget for the owners when they were raising their five sons. The choppy layout maximized the number of bedrooms, but could barely hold their family of seven within the common living
spaces. They needed a renovation to create a Gathering House which is warm and inviting, and which captures their personal style with roomy spaces for entertaining.

• The kitchen was renovated to meet the changing needs of the family
• A more contemporary and dramatic exterior was created by using the traditional lines of the existing craftsman style house, and infusing it with a modern Scandinavian sensibility.
• A dark and monochromatic colour palette is used to calm the visual impact of existing trim and decorations. This is accented by new and modern wood elements including clear cedar channel siding and dramatically expressed
  structural wood elements.
• A theatrical addition to the front of the home delineates the entrance, and grounds the front elevation of the home. It includes a new gabled roof over a striking double-height glass wall surrounding the front door.
• A new sculptural detached garage in the backyard was designed to be looked at, as it is visible from the kitchen and dining room. Its dramatically asymmetrical roof line and the continuation of the Scandinavian material palette create a visual backdrop for the landscaping.
